I've been wanting to do this for a while. Now I can type instead of pen scratch in a journal. It's an experiment, but isn't life. I wish you joy and happiness. May life bless you and may you bless life.

Misplaced

The sweet aroma of biscuits filled her bedroom. She dressed quickly and rushed downstairs. Her uncombed hair fell loosely around her shoulders and matts of blond curls stood straight up in the back. “Good morning,” said a sweet frail voice. “Biscuits smell good Nan, are they ready?” she asked. “Right after your hair is combed dear and you are dressed properly. Every meal deserves respect.” It was going to be a long summer for Jordan Miller.

Spring

At the speed of life we seek the thrill
and turn our minds away from pain.

We are empty, waiting to be filled
we are full, waiting to pour.

Our path slips away and we are left alone
fending for ourselves finding strength and hope.

When the day comes and the light shines through
may peace be the foundation and love be in bloom.

Floating

My kids returned to swimming lessons. When I arrived they were in full splash. My three year old was the only kid in his class. I hope I never forget the smile on his face. I think he liked the personal attention. He even went in the canoe all by himself with both paddles. Their Dad had the same squishy look I had watching that one.  The older one was nervous going up a level. I told him it’s like a video game, just follow the instructions and you’ll figure it out. I think he was amazed that he could still swim.

I’m mindful of how much I’m missing with my kids. I’m looking for life to bring me more balance so I can feed my creative spirit and more often watch my children smile. I can’t get these days back. Something’s gotta give.

Buttercups

It is sometimes too painful to see things as they truly are. We often need to protect ourselves until we are ready to observe the truth. We are fragile, every one of us.

We cannot begin to understand another’s pain. We place ourselves in their position, but we still can only imagine. We know not of their experience, we know not what they have within them—the strength or the fear.

When those around you suffer, reflect your beauty like a buttercup. If you bring only a moment of pleasure, you’ve made a difference.

The Passion – Part 1

Pastor Kimber asked if I would share my interpretation of the Passion story for the week of Easter. I’ve started with Luke 22 14:71. Look for more this coming week.

This is the story of the last supper and how Jesus was subsequently betrayed by Judas and Peter and brought to be blindfolded, beaten and insulted.

What am I thinking about this?

It’s difficult to interpret passages that I’ve heard so often. I think I haven’t ever really understood, just followed in faith. However, understanding strengthens our faith so this is a good exercise.

During his final meal with his disciples, Jesus monumentalized an everyday ocassion. Through this, we are given an opportunity to reflect daily on God’s love.

When we share a holy meal with our church family, we are sharing a common reflection, usually reserved for Sunday mornings. But we can bring this to every meal, silently or formally and include nourishment for our faith.

Jesus challenges us to see true leaders as children and the greatest kings as servants. This says to me that to remain open to love we must see life as a child and experience all things without adult prejudices.  Do not live as if you deserve to be waited on but live to wait on others. For we cannot be wise nor great without knowing innocense and humility.

Jesus said to pray not to fall into temptation. His disciples attacked those who came to bring Jesus to justice. Jesus demanded they stop and healed the wrong they had done. This seems to be a pre-cursor to the gathering of our sins that Jesus died for.

Through our faith our sin is removed and we are able to focus on today and tomorrow—not the guilt of the past. With this heavy burden removed, we are free to experience each new day as a child and lead others to witness the same peace.

Jesus knew his path, he knew it could not be altered. He was prepared and ready to be with God. I don’t believe we are given such a clear path. I do believe, however, that our true paths are revealed to us through prayer and meditation. When we are at peace with our lives, we are clear to see and fulfill our future.

Chilling

Clean shaven with short hair, he looked young and straight. Attempts at small talk received only grunts, or silence with narrowing stares. He felt like a cop in a crack house. Making his way to the back of the room, he saw a familiar face. “I know you,” said a young-looking woman with a broad smile. “What are you doing here?” she asked. He walked by. He didn’t answer. He didn’t know.

Gathering

life gathers faith
and faith spreads hope
hope gathers desire
and desire spreads passion
passion gathers love
and love spreads peace

Coldful

I don’t think I’ve ever had a chest cold before. I probably have but denied it. This time it’s for real and it’s not getting better. I’m all freaked out and I’m going to bed (to sleep). I’m not reading any books or any work stuff or watching tv or thinking. I’m just going to bed. It’s 6:45 pm and right after I wash the dishes, feed my dog, tidy up the house, call my sister and have a bath, I’m going to bed.

Lumps in the sand

The night was too dark for a full moon. The world seemed unfamiliar. Her mind was unable to reason, her eyes unable to focus. Her bare feet were planted squarely in the sand, up to her ankles. Her cold bare shoulders shivered, her neck stiffened. She was afraid, she was confused. Suddenly a loving presence formed a cocoon around her.  She silently succumbed to its embrace. “Come back to bed,” a voice whispered, “you’re in the kitty litter.”

Lighten up

I fear that life is getting too serious. Tomorrow is girls night. Dinner and conversation. The real good kind that makes you glad to be someone’s friend. This will shake the serious out. The reservation is under Pitt.
